When it comes to Fraud, Waste and Abuse… Prevention is still the best medicine!

When it comes to FWA, prevention through training is not only the best medicine, it’s the only medicine!

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation and LearnSomething Inc., a nationally recognized provider of pharmacy, grocery, and healthcare training programs, have jointly developed a new training program entitled Preventing Fraud, Waste and Abuse. This program was developed to help community pharmacies educate their employees to detect and prevent fraud, waste and abuse (FWA) in government health care programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. FWA can be a significant source of liability for unwary pharmacies and pharmacists arising from unintentional or careless errors.

This new training program will provide community pharmacy with a valuable and thoroughly vetted anti-FWA training solution. The program has been designed specifically for community pharmacy to instruct their employees on company policies and procedures intended to ensure compliance with FWA laws and regulations.

ACPE continuing education credit

ACPE and PTCE programs are available from the Catalog Page and presented in a multimedia format. These programs include online certification exams that allow you to print certificates (when applicable) immediately following a completion with a passing score. You may return to your Personal History Page to reprint any completed certificate.

New Medicare prescription drug benefits kicks in on Jan. 1

Your pharmacy patients are likely asking questions about the new benefit plans available under the Medicare Part D program, recently approved by Congress. Expect your patients to ask for guidance in evaluating which, if any, of the 40+ plans to be made available is the right choice for their specific needs.

Medicare Part D Enrollment: What Community Pharmacy Needs to Know, a two-hour ACPE accredited course available online, reviews the entire program, including (1) the coverages available through Medicare Part D—and how they compare to those available through Medicare Part C—and (2) the enrollment process, late enrollment penalties, and processes for exceptions and appeals.

To register for the Medicare Part D Enrollment online course, please go to the Catalog Page and select the program. HIPAA Privacy Rule and HIPAA Security Basics compliance training programs are also available if you have not yet completed your training.
