This class examines the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) which is sometimes referred to as "the agency privacy act." GLBA imposes restrictions on what "nonpublic personal information" a financial institution may share with others. Since insurance companies and agencies fall under the "financial institution" category they are subject to GLBA. Therefore it's imperative that agencies and companies understand what information they can collect, with whom they can share that information, when an "opt-out" notice is required, and under what circumstances they must provide the "privacy notice" to their customers.
